    Job Summary: 

    The Asphalt Crew Laborer is an integral part of the asphalt paving team, contributing to the successful completion of road construction projects. This physically demanding role involves manual labor including shoveling, raking, equipment assistance, traffic control, and adherence to safety protocols. You will receive on the job training to learn the asphalt laborer position with the potential to advance to equipment operation. This will be based on aptitude, ability to learn, reliability, competency, and acquired knowledge. 


    Duties/Responsibilities:

    1. Manual Labor:

       - Engage in strenuous physical activities, including but not limited to shoveling, raking, and lifting heavy materials up to 50 pounds.

       - Work for extended periods on foot, bending, stooping, and kneeling as required during various phases of construction.

       - May clean tools, equipment, vehicles, work sites from debris and materials.

       -  Other duties as assigned.


    1. Equipment Operation Assistance:

       - Provide physical support to equipment operators, including guiding machinery and assisting in maneuvering paving and compaction equipment.

       - Lift and carry tools and materials necessary for equipment setup and operation.


    1. Material Handling:

       - Lift and move asphalt materials, tools, and equipment, adhering to proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries.

       - Load and unload construction materials from trucks manually or using appropriate equipment.

       - Spreads asphalt, gravel, and other materials. Lifts and carries materials, tools, and supplies.

    1. Site Maintenance and Preparation:

       - Engage in continuous physical activity to keep the work area clean and organized, including the removal of debris and waste materials.

       - Perform routine maintenance tasks on tools and equipment, involving manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

       - May operate hand or power tools, measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.


    1. Safety Compliance:

       - Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations at all times, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, and safety vests.

       - Participate in regular stretching and warm-up exercises to prevent injuries associated with physical labor.


    1. Team Collaboration:

       - Work closely with other crew members to coordinate tasks and ensure the smooth progression of the construction process.

       - Communicate effectively with team members, using physical signals and verbal communication when necessary.


    1. Quality Control:

       - Assist in quality control measures, involving close attention to detail and the ability to make precise adjustments as needed.

       - Report any physical discomfort or issues promptly to supervisors to address and prevent potential injuries.


    Required Skills/Abilities

    - Good verbal and written communication skills.

    -Ability to actively listen, understand, and follow directions.

    - Ability to work in a variety of roles.

    - Willingness to learn and participate in all aspects of laying asphalt and road construction.


    Physical Demands and Requirements: 

    - Ability to lift and carry heavy objects> 5-10 lbs.

    - Endurance for prolonged periods of standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.

    - Strength and agility for bending, stooping, kneeling, and working in various physical positions.

    - Tolerance for exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.

    - Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of continuous manual labor throughout the workday.

    - Must be able to meet attendance schedule requirements with consistency and dependability.

    - Manual Dexterity to quickly move your hands, and arms together to grasp and manipulate objects with arm/hand steadiness.


    Qualifications:

    - High school diploma or equivalent.

    - Previous experience in physically demanding roles, preferably in construction.

    - Understanding of proper lifting techniques and safety procedures.

    - Physical fitness and stamina to meet the demands of the job.

    - Ability to work in a team environment, receive and follow directions effectively.

    - Able to communicate as necessary with crew, drivers, general public, and supervisors to maintain overall safety through verbal and physical methods of communication.


    Education and Experience:

    - Previous experience not required we will train you on the job.

    - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
