The Payment Solutions Specialist is responsible for collection of delinquent loans utilizing methods of collections as allowed under the terms of the loan agreement and in accordance with federal, state, and credit union regulations governing debt collection. The Specialist will work closely with delinquent members through various means of contact such as telephone calls, letters, and through electronic communication in an effort to determine the cause of delinquency and develop long term plans to assist members to meet their loan obligations.

 Essential Duties and Functions: (include but are not limited to) 

• Responsible for being knowledgeable of, and ensuring that Service Standards, as defined and established by the credit union, are actively pursued, and routinely achieved in the day-to-day performance of job duties 
• Contributes to the overall success of the department through exceptional member service, and risk management 
• Responsible for the management and control of the assigned Collection Queue(s). Ensures goals assigned for the Collection Queue(s) as well as departmental goals are achieved on a monthly basis
• Establishes and maintains ongoing professional relationships with staff and management. Communicates thoughts and ideas to others in a manner that is respectful and that fosters a productive and supportive environment. Demonstrates the highest commitment to exceptional internal and external member service 
• Reviews and recommends delinquent loans for extensions or rewrites when appropriate to the Team Leader
• Reviews and recommends auto loans for repossession
• Reviews and recommends Mortgage Loans for foreclosure 
• Responsible for the knowledge, application and strict adherence to the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (RFDCPA), as well as State and Federal laws pertaining to the collection of a debt
• Ensures Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI) claims, and adjustments are processed in a timely manner 
• Recommends delinquent loans for small claims, repossession, credit revocation, field investigation, or legal action as per the established guidelines to the Team Leader
• Is creative and effective in developing and implementing skip-tracing strategies to locate skip members. Works closely with repossession agencies in locating and recovering the credit union’s collateral 
• Maintains an awareness of departmental workflow and priorities and assists coworkers during month end/crisis situations as necessary
• Accepts management decisions and implements directives as required
• Takes responsibility for individual career development and training and seeks opportunities to learn new skills 
• Perform other duties, as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2-4 years previous collection experience 
• 2-4 years previous experience with a financial institution
• Demonstrated ability to be fiscally responsible

Preferred Experience and Education

• Bilingual experience
