The Port of Coeymans is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position involves operating a wide range of equipment to support the daytime operations of our port facility. The ideal candidate will have experience operating equipment such as skidsteers, loaders, haul trucks, material handlers, and ship cranes. Additionally, they will assist in loading and unloading various materials from barges and cargo ships, while also performing general laborer tasks for special projects and maintenance needs. Safety and adherence to security standards are paramount in all duties performed. The Heavy Equipment Operator will also be responsible for routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and reporting any equipment defects or repairs to the supervisor.

Annual salary range will be between $52,000 to $75,000

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a diverse range of heavy equipment including skidsteers, loaders, haul trucks, material handlers, and ship cranes.
• Assist in the loading and unloading of materials such as stone, gravel, and salt from barges.
• Participate in the offloading process of cargo ships arriving at the port.
• Perform general laborer tasks to support special projects and day-to-day maintenance operations.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Report any equipment defects or repairs to the supervisor promptly.
• Ensure all duties are carried out in compliance with safety and security standards.

Required Qualifications:

• 2-4 Years of Heavy Equipment Operation Experience.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift 50 LBS. and pass a pre-employment physical assessment and drug test.
• Periodic travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma or vocational training in a closely related field.
• 10 hour OSHA Construction Safety Training.
• 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER and Annual 8 hour Refresher Training
• Mechanically inclined.
