We currently have an opening at our Corporate Headquarters in Urbana, Ohio for a Payroll Specialist.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Specialist ensures the accurate and timely processing of payroll for several hundred U.S. employees in approximately 20 locations across multiple states on weekly and bi-weekly pay cycles.
Essential Duties
- Maintains confidentiality and the highest degree of integrity
- Coordinate and maintains payroll for all U.S. associates, ensuring timely and accurate employee payments
- Reviews and verifies payroll reports and documents for accuracy before uploading third party files for 401K, HSA, Taxes, Child Support, garnishments, banking, GL Reports, etc.
- Coordinate with payroll provider and complete payroll tax activities and annual filings for local, state, and federal (5500, W-2, ACA, etc.)
- Maintains knowledge & understanding of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including, but not limited to writs of garnishment, child support, levies, and Maintain and ensure reporting of paid time off is accurate, adjusting as appropriate within boundaries of policy
- subpoenas.
- Assist employees with payroll and timekeeping questions
- Coordinate the posting and reconciliation of payroll reports into the financial accounting system
- Ensure employee benefits and deductions are accurately calculated and remitted (health insurance, 401k, HSA, garnishments, etc.)
- Coordinate with HR functions for proper recording and reconciliation of employee changes (hire, termination, leave of absence, promotions etc.)
- Partner with accounts payable for the proper issuance of Form 1099
- Conduct periodic audits and actively seeks opportunities for process improvements
- Validate, test and train on updates and improvement to timekeeping / payroll system
- Address other issues and/or assume additional responsibilities as needed in support of the finance and accounting department
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentially
- Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred
- Prior experience in payroll software required, Paycor is preferred
- 3-5 years of time/attendance and payroll experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
- 3-5 years increasing responsibility in payroll activities
- Strong user of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel for analysis
- Associates degree in Accounting or Business is helpful
- Expertise in garnishment and related legal requirements
- Demonstrated employee service skills
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
