Payroll Director directs all aspects of payroll processing operations. Establishes and oversees payroll processes and procedures for routine processing, tax reporting and internal financial requirements. Being a Payroll Director designs short-term and long-term strategies to achieve continuous improvement and efficiencies in payroll processing and delivery operations. Keeps stakeholders informed about the status of payroll laws and regulations and develops implementation plans for required changes to operations. Additionally, Payroll Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Payroll Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Payroll Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Payroll Supervisor serves as a key finance and business team member at Southern Furniture Industries. Responsibilities range from routine daily tasks to annual budget development. Works closely with Operations and Human Resources.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Preparation and processing of weekly payroll; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets and production pay

    • Determine and submit payment for payroll liabilities, including federal/state withholding, unemployment, deductions, garnishments, 401k, etc.
    • Prepare quarterly and annual tax returns, including W2s
    • Complies with federal, state and local laws related to payroll
    • Reconciles all payroll related accounts in the general ledger
    • Supervise payroll clerical employee(s)
    • Coordinate with human resource, budget and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data including preparation/distribution of payroll reports
    • Travel – Low

    Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

    The ideal candidate will be an individual with a degree in Accounting/Finance and at least 3 years of payroll experience in a manufacturing environment.

    Desired Technical skills and abilities include:

    • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential and exercise extreme discretion
    • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
    • Complies with federal, state and local laws related to payroll
    • Excellent problem solving/judgement skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Spreadsheets—high proficiency
    • Interpersonal and team skills
    • Communication—finance-to-finance; finance-to-business, verbal and written
    • Software literate—Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Payroll systems, etc
