Payroll Manager is responsible for managing payroll processing operations. Establishes policies and processes that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions. Being a Payroll Manager interfaces between finance and human resource departments to provide accurate and useful information. Develops and produces payroll-related statistical reports. Additionally, Payroll Manager ensures accurate and on-time governmental reporting and compliance. Oversees the activities and training of both professionals and support staff. Directs the resolution of complex issues or errors. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Payroll Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Payroll Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Responsible for properly performing the administrative duties necessary to assist in ensuring the accurate, timely payment of payroll to all Associates of the property while maintaining the strictest level of confidentiality within the department.

    Adhere to any and all company and departmental policies, practices and procedures.

     

    Contribute to a safe work environment, through compliance with established safety guidelines, identifying potential safety hazards, and reporting same to the appropriate person for proper resolution.

            

    Maintain a professional departmental, company and community reputation.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains the strictest level of confidentiality within the department, ensuring that the payroll records of each individual Associate remain confidential.
    • Maintains all files in the payroll division of the finance department. This includes time and attendance records, payroll data entry, payroll reports, and manual check copies. Responsible for the payroll file storage area and appropriate log.
    • Cooperates with the Choctaw Gaming Commission, providing detailed timesheet information as requested.
    • Assists departments in the maintenance of time and attendance records throughout the property.
    • Assists departments with maintaining alternate rate forms.
    • Assists associates with requesting PTO, making changes to their direct deposits, and completing new federal and state tax withholding forms.
    • Answers incoming phone calls for the Payroll Department and provides the information requested, if able.
    • Responsible for check distribution at the Payroll window to both departments and individual Associates.
    • Responsible for maintaining the check box, including notifying Associates of checks that have not been picked up and pulling checks for terminated Associates to send to Human Resources.
    • Responsible for receiving and distributing incoming mail for the Payroll Department.
    • Responsible for responding to Writs of Garnishment, notifying affected Associates, and entering the garnishment amounts into the Associates’ payroll records.
    • Assists in ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of Payroll information to accomplish proper processing and issuance of pay checks for all Associates.
    • Assists in ensuring the integrity of all financial data produced in Payroll.
    • Conducts the necessary research to effectively resolve payroll complaints from Associates.
    • Assists in ensuring that a maximum level of property-wide service and satisfaction with respect to the Payroll Department is achieved and maintained.
    • Held to a very high degree of accountability for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
    • Leads by setting a positive example to all Associates.
    • Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular attendance record.

                    AGE and GAMING:

    21 years of age or above

    Gaming property – Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Choctaw Gaming Commission.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    High School diploma or GED is required. 

    TESTING:

    Must be able score at least 85% on a Basic Math test.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must possess excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.  Must be extremely numbers-oriented and computer-literate with superior spreadsheet skills.   Must successfully learn Pearl River Resort’s automated Payroll System within 90 days of employment.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to comprehend basic instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to apply commonsense reasoning to a variety of situations.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    Essential responsibilities include moderate physical ability such as lift or maneuver at least twenty-five (25) pounds and sit for extended periods in excess of 4 hours.  Excess use of a computer, monitor and calculator is probable, and possible eye and wrist strain may be encountered.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an Associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

     

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  When on the casino floor, the noise level increases to loud.  When on the casino floor or other designated areas may be subjected to tobacco smoke. 

     

    Due to the unpredictable nature of the hospitality/entertainment industry, Associates must be able to work varying-schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.
