WORKDAY PAYROLL MANAGER Tuckahoe Holdings, based in Richmond, Virginia, is a family-run diversified holding company, focused on owning middle market companies indefinitely. We are currently seeking a Workday Payroll Manager to lead the accurate, timely, and efficient processing and payment of payroll and related compensation expenses for Tuckahoe Holdings and its portfolio companies in multiple locations. POSITION OVERVIEW This position reports directly to Tuckahoe’s CHRO and has support services accountability to business unit HR leaders. Manages a team of Payroll Analysts that work in both the company’s Richmond, VA main office and remote locations. Operates within a “Shared Services” model that provides payroll, benefits and HRIS (Workday) administration across a company whose portfolio companies vary in size and product and service offerings. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Manages the preparation of the payroll analytic, review metrics and timely delivery/approval of pay file(s) to OSV via the Workday platform. • Assists with build, implementation and reporting for all payroll related set up in the Workday and OSV environments for both existing and new entities. • Oversees and reviews all payroll entries prepared by the payroll team which includes gifts, one-time payments, term checks, LOA entries, 401K and other distributions. • Oversees and directs payroll procedures to maintain compliance with laws and tax obligations. • Ensures all payroll related tax and statutory filings are compliant within all jurisdictions of each region. • Responsible for the timely preparation and calculation of off-cycle payments including termination pay, special bonuses, transition allowances, etc. • Works with external vendors directly related to payroll functions to manage necessary Services such as garnishments, net pay, employment verification and WOTC. • Leads company initiatives to drive process improvements within the payroll function and collaborates with key partners throughout the organization to ensure the accurate recording of all payroll input. • Responsible for reconciling all year end forms and filings for all regions to ensure accurate entry of all compensation transactions (e.g., gifts, prizes, education assistance, imputed income, equity, etc.). • Supports internal and external auditors’ requests, to include research and analysis. • Maintains appropriate internal control requirements and narratives, including maintenance of documentation for payroll-related processes and providing recommendations, as appropriate. • Oversees, directly or through subordinates, the HR Helpdesk system. • Effectively builds, leads and manages the Payroll team driving a “customer service mindset” consistent with company values. EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; CPP certification strongly preferred. • 10 or more years of relevant payroll work experience managing a comprehensive payroll process including effectively managing direct reports and utilizing the Workday platform. experience leading the payroll function for a large organization or holding company structure strongly preferred. • Extensive Workday experience with payroll set up, payroll processing, reporting, security, time tracking, absence and HCM; experience with/knowledge of Workday Advanced Compensation and Talent modules a plus. • Experience with multi-state payrolls larger than 1,500 employees with multiple classifications and multiple pay frequencies. • Strong tax and tax regulation experience. • Strong Excel and other Microsoft product experience. • Experience with executing complex benefits programs within payroll and automated HR and payroll systems using Workday and OSV environments. • Strong system and data flow knowledge. Ability to learn and adapt to new flows and software technologies, recurring metrics tracking and analysis is a plus. • High functioning, working knowledge of relevant payroll related standards, codes, GAAP, and other statutory requirements. • Global payroll experience a plus. • Strong communication skills including ability to listen/effectively respond to “Shares Services Customers,” comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear/concise manner and present effectively both orally and in written form to all levels of the organization. • Ability to effectively lead projects and/or participate as an effective team member as well as work cross-functionally with other functions in the Richmond, VA main office. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS • The ability to travel on a flexible schedule. Travel is anticipated to be approximately 10% with occasional non-regional travel, and occasional increases in travel. PHYSICAL DEMANDS • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands or feet and reach with hands and arms. • Requires mobility to travel locally or nationally. • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT • Majority of time is spent in an office environment. Occasional time in a production or warehouse environment may be required to meet operating company needs.
