Pediatric Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, determines the appropriate course of treatment, and discusses these treatment plans with the child or adolescent and the responsible adults. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient. Additionally, Pediatric Psychiatrist requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. This position provides professional psychiatric care and treatment to mentally ill adults in an in-patient State psychiatric hospital.
Functions as the Unit Coordinator overseeing the activities of professional staff including Registered Nurses, Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Recreational Therapists, Music Therapists and Dieticians. This position must meet patient treatment standards as established by the Joint Commission, Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services and other applicable laws and regulations.
This position, on a regular basis, oversees the provision of health care services to persons in the care and custody of the State and has unsupervised access to controlled substances. Position is required to perform rotational on-call duty evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Possession of a medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.
Experience
Completion of a psychiatric residency program and one year of experience as a
psychiatrist in a mental health, clinic, program, or correctional facility.
Possession of a license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine and surgery in Michigan.
