Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, determines the appropriate course of treatment, and discusses these treatment plans with the child or adolescent and the responsible adults. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient. The Research Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the laboratory and performing research related activities within the University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics. This position will provide support by performing administrative duties related to ordering lab supplies, maintenance and organization of protocols and documents, remaining in compliance with various standard operating procedures and requirements, and conducting neuroscience research related to gene discovery in rare inherited hematological and neurological disorders, performing functional modeling of disease using molecular experiments involving induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and gene editing technologies, coordinating patient recruitment, maintaining rare disease biorepository and registry, collecting and organizing data, and analyzing results.
This position will promote the University's research mission by supporting scientific, scholarly and creative activities through scientific inquiry, open discovery, dissemination of new knowledge, administering programs, procedures and policies to assure compliance and to advance research.
The Research Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of investigate procedures to accomplish research goals. Review literature and recommend experiments directed toward furthering a specific research project or multiple projects. Independently perform scientific investigative procedures. Analyze and interpret experimental results and assist in determining relevance to project. Prepare reports, charts, and graphs directed at communicating results at scientific meetings or in preparing manuscripts for publication. Actively contribute to the research results of the laboratory. This is a specified term position.
