Pediatric Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, determines the appropriate course of treatment, and discusses these treatment plans with the child or adolescent and the responsible adults. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient. Additionally, Pediatric Psychiatrist requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director.     Description

    The psychiatrist is given extensive independent judgment in reviewing medical information and providing expert opinion with regard to the diagnosis and treatment of mental health patients.

    The psychiatrist will oversee the treatment plans and progress of  pediatric patients, serve as

    consultant on specific cases and examine and treat patients whose condition may also require pharmacological intervention

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conducts psychiatric evaluations
    • Conducts psychosocial assessments
    • Develop treatment plans, which may include psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, hospitalization and medication
    • Writes and maintains progress notes for psychiatric and psychotherapy sessions
    • Maintains and updates client records
    • Consults with psychotherapists relating to mutual clients
    • Makes appropriate referrals for clients (within or outside of agency)
    • Obtains client records when needed (school, MHMRA, etc.)
    • Participates in weekly interdisciplinary staff meetings
    • Advises on kind and quantity of psychiatric supplies and equipment.
    •  Coordinates psychiatric services with other medical activities
    • Maintains monthly statistics and abides by agency’s Policies and Procedures manual and Mental Health department Policies and Procedures.

    Qualifications


    • Must have a valid medical license to practice in Texas, be in good standing and experience working in a high-volume clinic environment.
    • Graduate of a formal accredited medical school and certified to practice by Texas State Board of Licensure and Supervision
    • Preferably Board certified in Psychiatry with a high level of competency in working with mental health issues, children and adolescents, families and diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic settings
    • Interest and/or experience in collaboration with interdisciplinary health teams
    • Possess unrestricted DEA certificate; excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
    • Compliance with professional and ethical standards of health care delivery.
