Being a Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Position Summary:
This individual serves as a member of the Performing Arts Band faculty, fulfilling all teaching duties for 6 different Lower, Middle, and Upper School Band classes, grades 4-12. The Director of Percussion supports the students during Full Band and also teaches all Percussion sectionals.
This position is responsible for both repertoire selections and the conducting of Percussion ensembles for all concerts, chapel services, assemblies, and special school Admissions and Advancement events. This position is required to participate in the annual Lower School Performing Arts Explorations after school, as well as the Upper and Middle School Music Performance Assessments held off campus. The Director of Percussion provides regular student supervision during Performing Arts events, and provides physical assistance with stage transitions during concerts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Percussion students in Lower School Grade 4 Band, Grade 5 Band, Middle School Beginning, Concert, and Advanced Bands, and Upper School Symphonic Band.
Maintain all Saint Andrew’s Percussion instrument inventory, including ongoing instrument maintenance and annual instrument repairs.
Collaborate with the Band Directors and colleagues to develop and implement the curriculum, including repertoire selection.
Support Band students at all co-curricular events, as directed by the Director of Performing Arts. These may include concerts on or off campus, Music Performance Assessments, Band Trips, Band Festivals, and local community events.
Support Band students in school performances including but not limited to assembly performances, chapels, Admissions, or Advancement events.
Provide support to the Upper School Jazz Band with attendance at rehearsals and performances.
Provide sectional instruction as scheduled for all Upper School, Middle School, and Lower School Percussion students.
Provide regular extra help to Band students.
Regularly attend all Division, Department, Band, and Production meetings.
Serve as an US advisor.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and Director of Performing Arts.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred
At least five (5) years teaching Percussion in an independent school or equivalent experience

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
