Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners repairs percussion instruments, such as drums, cymbals, and xylophones. Removes drum tension rod screws and rods by hand or using drum key. Being a Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     An Instrument Person job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Capital Delivery Division. The Instrument Person will work on the field survey crew in the Survey Services section working with and under the supervision of the Senior Survey Technician.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED.
    • One (1) year of responsible surveying experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, the Survey Technician Certification Level 1.
    • Must pass the City of Fort Worth physical and drug screen.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Three years of responsible surveying experience.
    • Paving, water, sewer, stormwater, and various civil construction staking experience (non-oil & gas).
    • GPS - Virtual Reference Station (VRS)/Real Time Kinematic (RTK) survey knowledge.
    • Knowledge of the principles and survey practices of Texas boundary surveying.
    • Knowledge and experience with Trimble total station robot.
    • MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.

    The Instrument Person job responsibilities include:

    • Provide field support for construction staking, as-built drawings, control networks, boundary surveys, research, subdivision platting, easement abandonments, political boundary determinations, and coordination of consultant services.
    • Performs a variety of tasks related to field surveying including collecting, recording, analyzing, preparing construction and land surveying data for property, boundary, and right-of-way projects.
    • Use professional grade GPS field equipment and software with the ability to perform complex arithmetic calculations in the field under diverse conditions.
    • Be familiar with survey field crew procedures and practices, and survey equipment.
    • Driving a City Vehicle.

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

    Physical Demands 

    Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
