Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners repairs percussion instruments, such as drums, cymbals, and xylophones. Removes drum tension rod screws and rods by hand or using drum key. Being a Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     Direct Report: Band Director and High School Activities Director

    Purpose: The High School Percussion Director position is performed for the purpose of creating a Percussion section that performs at competitions and school and community events; creating choreography for the performances; instructing students in fundamentals and advanced percussion technique; supervising students at any Percussion event.


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Attends work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
    • To "telework" when requested by the District.
    • Arranges transportation, lodging and meals for all co-curricular events for the purpose of ensuring all trip necessities are provided.
    • Creates an environment conducive to learning for the purpose of physical, social and emotional development for students.
    • Creates choreography for the purpose of enhancing competitive routines while maintaining and challenging student abilities.
    • Develops and promotes off season programs and opportunities for the students (e.g. summer training, clinics, camps, etc.) for the purpose of strengthening and improving the skills of students and the program.
    • Evaluates students performing groups for the purpose of giving valuable feedback and critique of the performances.
    • Instructs students in percussion techniques for the purpose of teaching and improving fundamental skills.
    • Maintains open communication with students and parents for the purpose of ensuring everybody is well informed of the responsibilities of the students as part of the program.
    • Partners with the Fine Arts Director and High School Band Director for the purpose of evaluating program needs.
    • Prepares students for competitions and community events for the purpose of setting students up for success, while following MSHSAA guidelines.
    • Provides Percussion participation at extracurricular events (e.g. football games, pep rallies, parades and community events, etc.) for the purpose of providing support and school spirit.
    • Selects music for performances for the purpose of selecting challenging and appropriate level of material.
    • Supervises students at any extra-curricular events for the purpose of ensuring proper student behavior in accordance with Board policies.
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions for the purpose of protecting students, equipment, material and facilities.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
