Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners repairs percussion instruments, such as drums, cymbals, and xylophones. Removes drum tension rod screws and rods by hand or using drum key. Being a Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     The CSPD Instrument Technician adheres to the protocols in Decontamination, Processing, and Sterilization. Understanding Sterile Processing infection control process and policies as they pertain to instrument and equipment maintenance, the CSPD Instrument Technician’s responsibilities include thorough cleaning of instruments and equipment to ensure the absence of any bioburden, as well as inspecting, function testing, and assembling items for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization.

    Maintaining accurate documentation through instrument tracking systems is a key aspect of the role.

    • Follows Manufacturer's Instructions for Use, along with Department and Hospital Processes and Policies.
    • Accurately detect blood that may remain on instruments before proceeding with the next step of sterilization.
    • Cleans equipment and instrumentation, assembles, and sterilizes according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
    • Inspects and tests the function of instruments and equipment; facilitates the replenishment of low, broken, or missing items.
    • Sorts sets of instrument trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
    • Labels packages, items, and container systems to be sterilized with proper sterilization information and initials of preparer.
    • Delivers sterilized supplies to and retrieves used supplies and trays from hospital department and clinic locations.
    • Maintains good working relationships with vendors, communicating in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrates the ability to acquire and utilize a comprehensive understanding of various sterilizers and sterilization methods.
    • Understand departmental supply requests and determine appropriate alternative supplies in the case of unavailability.
    • Prioritize workload and requests for supplies and trays.
    • Perform environmental maintenance duties and assist in maintaining inventory levels.
    • Work and communicate with clients and customers to satisfy their expectations.
    • Communicates actions to management promptly.
    • Maintains thorough and accurate sterilization documentation and record keeping by maintaining permanent records and test results.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience :

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Current Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician Certification (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.
    • Broad knowledge base regarding medical / surgical instruments and equipment.
    • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
    • Available for on-call, work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed.
    • Ability to wear appropriate protective attire.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Must regularly lift and carry a variety of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as standing and walking for long periods of time.
