    The base salary for this position is $92,000.00 to $120,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary.     • The successful candidate will provide professional geologic services for all related issues in the management of private timberlands. 
    • Your primary focus will be to conduct geologic review and reporting for Timber Harvesting Plans (THP) as well as provide support in watershed-wide mass wasting trend analysis, road / landslide mitigation, and related tasks.

    Responsibilities

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

    • Provide all necessary planning, groundwork, oversight, and reporting required for geologic licensure of THPs and Note 45 THP Geologic Reports.
    • Assist in preparing Watershed Wide Waste Discharge Reports and California Department of Fish and Wildlife 1600 permitting.
    • Conduct watershed analysis reviews and report findings.
    • Compose Note 45 THP Geologic Reports, including time-sequenced stereo-paired aerial photographic analysis, review of published geologic maps and adjacent geology reports, field mapping of geologic formations, structural associations, geomorphology, mass wasting, and analysis of the data; coordinate with the Registered Professional Foresters regarding findings;  develop mitigations to reduce mass wasting potential following harvest activities;  write reports regarding the findings for agency review in the THP;
    • Document detailed characterizations of failed road segments and / or significant stream restoration activities for repair, provide mitigation plan and supervise construction / deconstruction activities.
    • Conduct watershed wide mass wasting assessments, analyze data to determine trends and relationships, and interpret harvest related associations.
    • Develop and maintain a current property-wide landslide inventory database.
    • Assess mass wasting risks associated with adjacent public and private property.
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and with company environmental standards.
    • Provide engineering geologic input at the planning phase of grant funded road decommissioning.
    • Be available as an on-call technical supervisor for all matters pertaining to mass wasting or sediment delivery to waters of the state to assess current and potential future impacts and implementation of mitigations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year College or University in Geology, Geomorphology, Soil Science or Watershed Science is required.
    • Four years of related experience is preferred.
    • Must be a Licensed Professional Geologist or a Certified Engineering Geologist with the State of California.
    • Must have experience in the recognition, mapping, measurement of, and interpretation of mass wasting
    •  geomorphology in a forested environment.
    • Ability to use GPS, directional compass, and topographical maps is necessary
    • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and be eligible to operate company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines.
    • Capable of safely and effectively operating (run, maneuver, navigate and drive-in various types of territory) all-terrain vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines.

     Travel Requirements:

    • Position has travel requirements of a local nature (within 150 miles one way) usually by pickup truck.

    Physical Requirements:

    •  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
    • The employee is regularly exposed to outside adverse weather and field conditions including steep and difficult terrain.
    • The employee frequently is required to sit.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to machinery in operation, fumes, dust, and loud environments.
    • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, and hard hat.
