    By joining the Division of Oil and Gas, Permit Review and Compliance Branch, Permit Review Section as a Geologist I in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to conduct the technical review of Applications for Permits and Testing Permit Applications . You will also have the opportunity to perform field inspections, and provide assistance to the oil and gas industry and the public.

    Holders of the (Job Classification) position will complete tasks such as:
    • Conduct initial technical review of Oil and Gas Permit Applications and Well Plats. Notify operators of discrepancies and resolve issues.
    • Conduct technical review of Testing Permit Applications and Reports of Investigation for eligibility, completion and compliance with existing statutes and regulations.
    • Conduct operator investigations to determine active or defunct status.
    • Assist with conducting field inspections and/or investigations.
    • Assist with compiling data, drafting, and reviewing technical reports and documents.
    • Provide assistance to the oil and gas industry and complete special projects related to oil and gas geology.

    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in geology, earth system science, earth and environmental sciences, or related field.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Registration by the Board of Registration for Professional Geologists (KRS 322A) will substitute for the required education.

    Work is typically performed both in an office and in a field work setting
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
