Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions in a hospital or healthcare facility setting. Consults with medical staff about potential drug interactions, patient medical history, and the use of particular medications. Being a Pharmacist responds to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensures that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security and hospital procedures. Additionally, Pharmacist may supervise pharmacy technicians. Requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:
Patient Profile review for clinical and fiscal control of medication dispensing. Compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs in a healthcare facility environment. Responsible for transferring prescriptions, handling incoming physician calls, logging data into the computer, and Drug Utilization Review. Provides order screening, order entry, supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and performs other related duties as assigned for the operation of the Pharmacy. Communicates with nursing and physician care givers on a daily basis. Ensures the service values are reflected in all aspects of the department operation. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a manager.
Applicant's Job Requirements Include:- Required: Bachelor's or Doctorate's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution and is licensed to practice.
- Required: Knowledgeable in pharmacology and the pharmacodynamics of medication therapy. Specializing in hospital pharmacy application of professional practice.
- Required: Currently licensed by and in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Required: ACPE I.V. Certified.
- Preferred: BLS.
