Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Staff Pharmacist is responsible for making therapeutic drug decisions as requested by the medical staff with regard to the various clinical pharmacy services. Dispenses pharmaceuticals pursuant to orders issued by qualified licensed independent practitioners (LIP) within the statutes and regulations of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, federal statutes and standards of the Joint Commission. The Staff Pharmacist is also responsible for initiating appropriate doses on medications when requested to do so by a LIP. Responsible for assisting with ensuring the compliance with regulatory requirements of the Joint Commission, the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, and all federal regulatory agencies. This position also supervises the duties of the Pharmacy Technicians and verifies the accuracy of their work. Responsible for the timely completion of project work as deemed appropriate by the Director of Pharmacy. Serves as a drug information reference to other health care providers. This job is measured with age specific criteria where appropriate.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy program with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
Licensure/Certification: A valid unrestricted license from the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is required. Must meet all continuing education requirements for re-licensure with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a health care setting with a focus on clinical pharmacy is preferred.
Skills: Must demonstrate strong verbal, clerical, and numerical abilities. Must be fully acquainted with the distributive systems of the Pharmacy Department, including the unit dose drug distribution system, the IV admixture system, and the computerized order entry/verification system.
