Pharmacist - Retail reviews prescriptions and compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs according to regulatory requirements and guidelines in a retail environment. Responds to customers questions about medications and advises about drug safety and potential interactions. Being a Pharmacist - Retail manages the transfer of prescriptions, incoming physician calls, and drug utilization review. Ensures that pharmacy's patient and financial records are correctly input and maintained. Additionally, Pharmacist - Retail requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires registered pharmacist(RPh). Requires pharmacy practice. Pharmacist - Retail's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Core Job Functions
- Medications are dispensed according to established procedure and State/Federal regulations. Performs clinical services to optimize drug therapy. Clinical assessment decisions are made to include appropriate cost-effective therapy to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- Provides consultation/intervention on non-formulary drug requests. Patients are counseled regarding dosage therapy, side effects and interactions related to discharge medications. Provides in-service education to hospital personnel regarding new medications as needed
- Inpatient medication profile is monitored for drug interactions, food/drug interactions, duplicate therapy, and other potential medication problems in drug therapy. Assures that central pharmacy, nursing stations and ancillary areas use appropriate methods for medication storage.
- Provides supervision and instruction of PhamrD students on clinical rotations as assigned. Precepts PharmD Residents as assigned providing supervision and mentorship. Participates in the planning and evaluations of PharmD students and Residents as needed.
