Pharmacy Director directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital or healthcare facility's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Being a Pharmacy Director requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Typically requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Additionally, Pharmacy Director typically reports to a top management. The Pharmacy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Pharmacy Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Summary:

    Provides direction and leadership for Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Pharmacy services. Works collaboratively with system Directors of Pharmacy and leads system clinical specialists in developing, implementing and maintaining progressive and best practice health system pharmacy services. Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health-care professionals. Leads the Northern Light Health Formulary Management Oversight Committee and associated medication utilization initiatives to ensure clinicians utilize medications according to evidence-based best practice in a cost-effective manner. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations for pharmacy services including Board of Pharmacy State licensure (as noted in the Credentials section below), Medicare COP, OSHA, and Joint Commission Standards. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Co-chairs Northern Light Health System formulary management for Hospital Inpatient and outpatient services
    • Directs medication utilization initiatives for Northern Light Health through leading Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Teams across hospital settings
    • Analyzes and provides strategic direction for cost containment and margin improvement in the medications used across all settings of care
    • Develops and tracks clinical initiative KPIs for all Northern Light Health member organizations and engages with both pharmacy and executive leadership and ensure accountability for success
    • In coordination with pharmacy leadership, assists in the development of medication shortage mitigation strategies to adapt to supply chain disruption while minimizing impact to patient care
    • Assists in system policy development in areas of medication management
    • Collaborates across disciplines to provide effective change management for initiatives impacting multiple key stakeholders
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations for pharmacy services including Board of Pharmacy State licensure (as noted in the Credentials section below), Medicare COP, OSHA, and Joint Commission Standards
