Pharmacy Director directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital or healthcare facility's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Being a Pharmacy Director requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Typically requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Additionally, Pharmacy Director typically reports to a top management. The Pharmacy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Summary:
    Alluvion Health’s Pharmacy Director is responsible for the operation of Alluvion Health’s pharmacy in accordance with the goals and objectives of the health center. The Pharmacy Director will provide safe, accurate and appropriate prescriptions and clinical services to patients within the framework of professional standards of care and legal requirements.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs the duties of a pharmacist, including verifying, dispensing prescriptions, and counseling patients on their medications.
    • Provides pharmacy services to patients and directs the daily operation of Alluvion Health’s pharmacy;
    • Maintains pharmacy and pharmacy operations in compliance with Montana State Board of Pharmacy and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency standards. Follows ASHP and APhA guidelines;
    • Carries out ongoing pharmacy quality assurance activities and participates in agency quality assurance activities;
    • Supervises pharmacy staff, including recommendations for hire, training, ongoing communication and feedback, performance evaluations and coaching, discipline and, if needed, recommendation for termination;
    • Addresses clients, patients, providers, and staff concerns or questions relating to the pharmacy, program operations and/or other technical difficulties;
    • Understands and maintains the integrity of the retail pharmacy’s various programs, including 340B, ADAP, Bridge and retail medications;
    • Orders and checks in pharmaceuticals including controlled substances and maintains the CII perpetual inventory;
    • Ensures that a system is in place for monitoring pharmacy inventories for over or under-stocked medications and expiration dates;
    • Maintains compliance with applicable policies, procedures, pharmacy laws and regulations, and accreditation/licensure requirements;
    • Serves as a liaison in the pharmacy community and participates organizational committees or groups;
    • Documents medication-related information in the electronic health record;
    • Precept Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students including scheduling, supervising, evaluating, providing feedback on performance and assignments, leading case conference, attending the annual clinical meetings and other duties as needed;
    • Utilizes and supervises pharmacy technicians/assistants as appropriate, with the pharmacist assuming final responsibility for work performed by the staff;
    • Responds to pharmacy related questions and provide oral and/or written drug information upon request;
    • Performs prospective drug utilization reviews to assess potential drug interactions, drug allergies, therapeutic duplications, correct drug and appropriate dose, patient compliance, etc.;
    • Performs comprehensive medication therapy management and makes appropriate recommendations to the primary care provider;
    • Offers counseling and patient education on medications dispensed and all new medications;
    • Provides direct supervision of the preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals;
    • Serves as the primary coordinator, liaison, and oversees compliance for the 340B program;
    • Monitors and assesses 340B rule changes, attends trainings, and ensures 340 B program is compliant with federal regulations;
    • Develops and implements pharmacy protocols;
    • Participates in Alluvion Health’s staff and board meetings as required;
    • Performs other duties as assigned;
    • Responsible for completing various special projects/events, which may require reviewing and analyzing information, identifying problems, recommending solutions, and writing reports;
    • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned; which may include but are not limited to directing or participating in special projects and events, conducting research, representing Alluvion Health at meetings and conferences, and attending continuing education and training events.

    Education/Training/Qualifications:

    Education/Training:

    • Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.);
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college with major course work in pharmaceuticals and a degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy in Pharmacy, B. Pharmacy or Pharm. D.;
    • Two years’ experience as a registered pharmacist required, which includes health-systems, retail pharmacy, or community health practice experience;
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

    Certifications:

    • Current and active license as a pharmacist with the state of Montana;
    • Clinical Pharmacist Certification preferred;
    • Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Montana.

    Computer:

    • Intermediate to advanced software knowledge in Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and the ability to learn and adequately operate Alluvion Health software applications.

    Language Skills:


    Fluent in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
