Pharmacy Director directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital or healthcare facility's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Being a Pharmacy Director requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Typically requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Additionally, Pharmacy Director typically reports to a top management. The Pharmacy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Pharmacy Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy Degree required.

    • Graduate of a Pharm.D. Program preferred.

    • Current State of New Mexico Pharmacist license required.

    • 3 or more years of previous Pharmacy management experience preferred.

    • 5 or more years of previous hospital experience in all aspects of pharmacy functions preferred.  

    • Knowledge of DNV/NIAHO certification or other certification program preferred. 

    • Knowledge of HIPAA and State regulations for acute care facilities is required.

     

    Position Summary

    Responsible for successfully managing the organizational and administrative operations of the Pharmacy Department.  Supervises all pharmacy personnel; recruits, interviews, promotes, disciplines and terminates pharmacy staff.  Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of safe medication-use processes throughout the organization.  Assures the Pharmacy meets legal, accreditation and certification requirements.  Manages the financial aspects of the department and directs the quality assurance activities.  Collaborates with the medical staff, department directors and managers, and administration in matters relating to pharmacy.  In addition, you may perform the duties of a Clinical Staff Pharmacist (refer to Clinical Staff Pharmacist job description). Performs duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions.  Decisions are of a routine or critical nature, made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies, and procedures. Communicates new materials, equipment, and procedures to all members of the team.  Is responsible for performing job duties within institutional guidelines.
