Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions. Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May prepare labels and routine prepacked orders. Additionally, Pharmacy Technician may be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The Pharmacy Technician possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Under the direct supervision of the registered pharmacist, and according to state and federal laws, performs a variety of tasks according to policies and procedures. The entry-level role requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations, knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology along with an understanding of the pharmacy dispensing responsibilities necessary to comply with state and federal regulations.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required
Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) recognized Educational School/Training Program is preferred
Experience
1 year pharmacy experience is preferred
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Licensed or registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice is required
May work in a license pending status for up to 60 days
Wisconsin Pharmacy Technicians seeking registration may work in a pending status until registration is approved
IL: Certified Pharmacy Technician achieved within 12 months of hire or enrolled in Doctorate of Pharmacy Program is required
WI: Certified Pharmacy Technician achieved within 12 months of hire or enrolled in Doctorate of Pharmacy Program is preferred
