Being a Phlebotomist may conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw and test blood samples to screen donors at blood bank. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, Phlebotomist requires Certification by a nationally recognized body. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Phlebotomist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Performs skin punctures to obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing. Responsible for prompt, accurate processing of test requisitions; accurate charging, registering and ordering tests for outpatients; and informing techs of stats and other timed or urgent testing. Telephones patients, physicians and nursing units when required. Maintains neat and organized collection trays, collection areas and work areas. Persons in this position are expected to demonstrate logical, professional behaviors under demanding and stressful conditions. National phlebotomy certification preferred.
