Summary: Supports the written communication needs of the unit by editing, updating, and preparing materials for distribution in support of Cooperative Extension Service Publications projects. Reviews and edits material for inclusion in a variety of publications, news releases, documents, and online media. Also, includes supervision of staff/student employees.
Classification Summary:
Under indirect supervision, prepares, assembles, edits, formats, and writes unit publications, including articles, manuscripts, books, journals, catalogs, and/or website material. Ensures all materials meet established standards of appearance and content.
Classification Standard Duties:
Edits, proofreads, and produces camera-ready copy for documents including newsletters, annual reports, booklets, flyers, course descriptions, books, manuscripts, articles, manuals, and other materials for distribution, or publication. Oversees production schedules to ensure completion by set deadlines. Provides technical computer support services and training to department personnel, as appropriate to the objectives of the position. Serves as a liaison between the unit and authors, printers, and/or publishers; as appropriate to the position, locates peer reviewers and mediates between peer reviewer and author. May maintain databases and files including those used to track subscriptions and mailing lists. May coordinate department activities such as production of documents, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining files. May negotiate contracts with authors and publishers for distributed books and reprints. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. Ability to develop and prepare manuscript copy for printing and/or reproduction. Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
