Richner Communications, an award-winning suburban local news organization in New York, is seeking a managing editor to help lead our coverage across more than 20 Long Island markets. Our family-owned business continues to grow, producing hyperlocal news coverage in 22 editions of Herald Community Newspapers, online at LIHerald.com, in daily and weekly email newsletters and across social media platforms that reach a combined audience of more than 200,000 every week.
This newly created role will join one other managing editor to help oversee our newsroom. Each managing editor will work with designated teams of reporters and editors on planning stories, developing talent, championing innovative tools and more.
The managing editor should have at least three to five years of professional experience in local media. They should be highly collaborative and adaptive to change. It is important that the managing editor has strong technical writing skills and is an effective communicator. Most importantly, the managing editor should have a passion to learn and collaborate as well as a strong drive to serve the community.
Each of the 22 newspapers has its own team of full-time editors and reporters. Each managing editor will work with their assigned teams in the following areas to:
