Scientific Laboratory Manager
Job Description:Managing Lab activities and use: Directs lab research activities on a day-to-day basis in human motion analysis laboratory, ensuring all laboratory support staff, students, and technicians perform all techniques accurately, as it specifically relates to basic laboratory procedures. Handles lab documentation and management, including but not limited to new member onboarding, item purchasing, equipment training and handling, lab scheduling. Provides insight into best testing practices and equipment capabilities for members looking to use the lab space for experimentation. Supervises hourly researchers. Assists lab members with their projects, including designing/building testing rigs, learning how to use new, specialized lab equipment, etc.
Maintaining lab equipment: Responsible for operating and maintaining specialized equipment (motion analysis, force treadmill, force plates, EMG, EEG, robotic hardware, metabolics). Troubleshoots equipment for failures, procures repair parts, implements repairs, supervises field service and facility engineers, and tests equipment for proper function after repairs. Assists with trouble shooting, repairing, and testing of specialized facility equipment, computer systems and support equipment. Works with external companies and contacts to facilitate repairs.
Training new lab members on equipment use and laboratory procedures. Provides training to facility users and staff on highly specialized equipment, research, or technology. Adheres and contributes to facility safety and procedure policy. Maintain compliance with Environmental Health and Safety and other institutional and governmental regulations
Collecting & analyzing experimental data: Current on emerging techniques for biomechanics and neurophysiology data collection, software programs, and instrumentation. May use new data analysis techniques or methodology. May write code to analyze research data.
$65,000-$80,000; commensurate with qualifications & experience
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with computer programming (Matlab, LabView), Motive, motion analysis, EEG, EMG, Visual 3D, and/or robotic hardware and control is desirable.
