Physician Assistant - Medical assesses, plans, and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Being a Physician Assistant - Medical orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries. Additionally, Physician Assistant - Medical requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Physician Assistant Education The Physician Assistant shall practice according to a Board-approved protocol which has been mutually agreed upon by the Physician Assistant and the supervising physician. Each protocol shall be prepared taking intoconsideration the specialty of the supervising physician, and must outline diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and categories of pharmacologic agents which may be ordered, administered, dispensed and/or prescribed for patients with diagnoses identified by the Physician Assistant. Each protocol shall contain a detailed description of backup coverage if the supervising physician is away from the primary office. Position Overview
The Physician Assistant is a practitioner working in collaboration with a physician(s) to deliver comprehensive healthcare to patient populations within his/her documented training and skills; scope of practice; and documented protocol/privileges (as written by the supervising physician). He/She provides patient care within the framework of the standards of practice and standards of care found in the "Protocol for Physician Assistant Practice, State of Mississippi." The Physician Assistant assumes other duties as assigned.
Physician Assistant must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant educational program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs or its predecessor or successor agency, have passed the certification examination administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), have current NCCPA certification, and possess a minimum of a baccalaureate degree, and meet other licensure requirements as provided by the MS State Board of Medical Licensure.

Minimum of two years experience as PA in an acute care hospital. Previous experience as a Physician Assistant preferred.
Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute and chronically ill patients. Communication /speaking / enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress level for 6-8 hours/8 hour shift associated with care of acute patient/family, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Auditory acuity to hear patient verbal communication and gather data using auscultory skills. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 6 – 7 ½ hours per 8 hr shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Must have high energy level and be capable of handling high pressure situations. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.
