Summary of Position
As a Dermatology Medical Assistant, you will be responsible and expected to perform various office and clinical duties to optimize practice efficiency. for providing clinical support to ensure efficient operation of the back office. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately, with high quality and efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview patients and document basic medical history
- Assisting providers during examinations
- Assists in accurate documentation in the medical record in a timely manner. Electronic medical record keeping (software used: Modernizing Medicine, EMA)
- Assist during medical examinations and various procedures
- Preparation and turnover of exam rooms (terminal cleaning)
- Cleaning and Sterilizing medical instruments
- Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms and sterilizes instruments
- Assist in placing necessary orders for treatments with consumables
- Assist in placing orders for supplies and assessing inventory levels.
- Ability to use critical thinking to make sound clinical decisions.
- Assisting patients, answering questions or concerns
- Assisting in medical and surgical procedures such as MOHS, excisions, biopsies.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential.
- Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about treatment plans and protocols.
- Assist with other tasks as needed such as front office tasks such as: scheduling, insurance authorizations, insurance verification, etc.
- May be required to rotate shifts during office hours which may include an occasional Saturday for Mohs surgery.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Participate actively in responsibilities pertaining to quality initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the clinical care team and demonstrate respect for all colleagues.
- Expand knowledge by participating in company and office educational initiatives.
- Must possess emotional maturity and stability to approach highly stressful situations in a calm and rational matter.
- Adhere to ethical standards of conduct as well as applicable state and federal laws.
- Provide effective oral or written nonverbal communication with patients and their families, colleagues, and health care providers.
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel
- Delivers quality customer service and maintains established quality control standards.
- Processes appropriate documents in an organized and accurate fashion.
- Respects patient confidentiality always
- Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms and sterilizes instruments
Qualifications
- 1 year experience in a Dermatology office with Back Office experience preferred but not required
- 3 year experience in any other specialty as a Medical Assistant
- Knowledge of medical office management systems and procedures
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Bilingual preferred but not required
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Social perceptiveness and service oriented
- Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software
