Physician - Immunology/Allergy examines and treats disorders and diseases of the immune system. Prescribes and administers patient medications. Being a Physician - Immunology/Allergy performs a variety of laboratory procedures, examines sample tissues, and uses various biological and chemical analyses to identify harmful organisms or pathological conditions. Consults with patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment. Additionally, Physician - Immunology/Allergy requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. Physician - Immunology/Allergy's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Under limited supervision, this exempt position works as part of the medical provider team providing medical services to the patients of the community health center. Reports to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Essential Functions
Provide primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician’s medical specialty; develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization, when necessary; stresses the importance of and keeps in compliance with clinical guidelines relating to preventive health care measures; and uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
Confer with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and patient’s families concerning treatment and care of patients; refers those cases, which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided; serves as a clinical preceptor relating to medical education; educates support staff where needed to maintain patient safety and workflow; completes electronic health records according to practice standards; and closes charts within the appropriate time frame.
Participate in the development and implementation of a regularly up-dated performance improvement plan for the consortium and disease collaborative(s); participates in the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention activities required by the U.S. Public Health Services; and participates in the health center’s quality assurance program, including attending morning huddles to help maintain Patient Centered Medical Home recognition and Joint Commission Accreditation.
Perform administrative support work such as word processing, creating spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval; orders, monitors and distributes program supplies/resources; and other information to ensure accuracy and conformance to established procedures and policies; and counsels patients regarding patient responsibilities and rights; adheres to patient confidentiality guidelines.

Graduation from an accredited medical school with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. Completion of an approved residency program in their field. License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Board certified in their field. Must be certified in Basic Life Support techniques.
