Physician - Nuclear Medicine uses radioactive materials to diagnose and treat disease. Monitors quality control of radionuclide preparation, administration and disposition, and ensures that all activities comply with the standards of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Being a Physician - Nuclear Medicine instructs and directs nuclear medicine technologists regarding desired dosages, techniques, positions, and projections. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Additionally, Physician - Nuclear Medicine requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. Major Responsibilities:
Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication by proper route per
clinician prescription and according to approved exam parameters. Competently performs venipuncture and
placement of peripheral IV catheters for medication administration. Accesses other vascular access devices,
as determined by department training and need. Follows correct procedures for handling radioactive
materials. Understands and implements ALARA measures. Maintains accurate records of pharmaceutical
doses
