• Retrieves medical records for providers in preparation for patient care prior to scheduled appointment.
• Effectively communicates the availability or unavailability of medical records.
• Maintains continuity of work operations, documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continued needs.
• Checks patient data for accuracy.
• Assigns codes for insurance reimbursement.
• Verifies insurance referral needed for patient procedure and follow up.
• Records and updates information in electronic medical record.
• Follows up and verifies patient procedures for test results, treatments, pathology reports, and other services requested and processed.
• Verifies procedures performed and appropriately reported and documented in patients’ medical record.
• Maintains updated CPT codes and global periods through CMS.gov and billing.
• Processes and finalizes patient charts for off-site storage.
• Works directly with medical providers, triage, billing, outside providers/facilities and surgical scheduling for patient care.

Position Requirements:

Minimum requirement of high school education and two years experience in a medical practice setting. One year experience with an electronic medical record system is also required as well as a strong understanding of medical terminology. Understanding of healthcare and insurance laws and practices is strongly desired. Word processing experience is desired.
