Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Physician Assistant

  • Orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon sub-specializing in hip arthroscopy in Charleston, South Carolina seeks physician assistant. Practice is comprised mostly of hip arthroscopy (60-70%) with the remainder split between shoulder and knee arthroscopy.

    The position would involve being in clinic 3-4 days a week working closely with a skilled and personable athletic trainer. MD would be in clinic 2 days a week with the PA. Physician assistant would independently run their own clinic 1-2 days a week. Clinic would include evaluating and working up new patients, performing surgical H&Ps, seeing post-operative and follow up patients, and performing ultrasound-guided injections (including intra-articular hip).

    The PA would assist in the OR an average of 1 to 1.5 days a week with knee arthroscopy, rotator cuff repairs, and hip arthroscopy. The breakdown of time in the clinic vs. OR is negotiable depending on the applicant’s interests, but this position involves more time in clinic than in the OR.

    There are opportunities for teaching PA and ATC students who rotate through clinic. Option to lecture to PA students, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. We work very closely with our network of physical therapists.

    We are proud of the team environment we have created – MD, PA, ATC, and SFA all work very well together. Excellent lifestyle. Outpatient only. No rounding. No trauma. No ER call. We take group call (light volume patient calls) 2-3 days a month.

    Ideal candidate would be detail-oriented, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be interested in building a regional center of excellence. A background in athletic training (ATC) is desirable, but not a requirement.
