Anatomic Pathology - Gross room assistant (Part Time)

    Job purpose:

    This position is responsible for helping in all areas of the lab including but not limited to receiving specimens from the couriers and documenting number of specimens and time received, distributing specimens to appropriate areas in the lab, opening specimen bags and preparing jars on tray for accessioning, labeling specimen jars/requisitions with labels, and scanning necessary paperwork.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Perform department clerical duties.
    • Provide accurate and timely data entry of patient data through the use of key software systems.
    • Perform possible specimen processing, receive and sort specimens and accurately track specimens.
    • Participate in Quality activities to ensure excellent customer service.
    • Any other duties assigned by the superivisor

    Physical requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.
    • Prolonged standing, lifting, bending, and telephone use. Some instrumentation and work counters are higher than table height.
    • Use of keyboard extensively is required, dependent upon shift assignment.

    Working conditions:

    • This requires working evening shift hours that may vary from 4-6 hours a night, depending on the workload. The workload must be completed in order to be done with the shift.
    • There may be an occasional weekend workload, but only on very extremely rare occasions.
    • Required to properly handle and dispose hazardous materials
    • Work well in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
    • Work with/handle sharp instruments, hazardous chemical substances and biological (biohazard) material.

    Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
    • Computer experience required.
    • Typing skills (at least 45 wpm)

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: $16.50 per hour

    Expected hours: 15 – 32 per week
