Position Summary: Exercises general supervision over the assigned office staff and performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians. Manages the office's registration/reception area graciously and efficiently and assists staff as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Works independently, in a safe and appropriate manner. Demonstrates both problem-solving and problem-prevention skills.
- Displays and encourages sensitivity to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers.
- Performs duties willingly and with initiative. Shares necessary information with co-workers in order that they may do the same.
- Remains composed and takes action to restore calm in stressful situations.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of the patient and work flow at the registration/reception area and is able to mentor and train junior staff members.
- Greets and registers all incoming patients professionally. Handles incoming and outgoing communications concisely and in a pleasant manner.
- Answers telephone promptly, courteously using good telephone etiquette taking complete messages, providing adequate information and routing callers properly.
- Obtains complete and accurate demographic and insurance information for each patient.
- Collects on patient accounts and/or co-payments as indicated, maintaining accurate accounting of the petty cash fund daily and adequate change to facilitate payments.
- Responds to patient inquires with regard to basic insurance or billing questions or provide a referral to appropriate staff member.
- Restocks and maintains assigned work station and equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Facilitates location of records, reports or other significant information or request by the physicians.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Experience: Six months work experience in a medical office setting required. 1 to 3 years of management experience in a health care organization preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, word processing and computer experience desirable. Candidates who present themselves in a professional manner, both in person and on the telephone are preferred.
