Physician Practice Operations Manager manages and coordinates administrative and clinical services for one or more physician office sites. Establishes work procedures and standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Being a Physician Practice Operations Manager supervises medical, nursing, and clerical staff to ensure quality patient care. Prepares periodic practice metrics and statistics. Additionally, Physician Practice Operations Manager may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Physician Practice Operations Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Physician Practice Operations Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The primary responsibility of the Manager of Practice Operations is to provide visible, on-site leadership in their location. The Manager of Operations works closely with Physician, Nursing, Service Line, Support Services and Revenue Cycle leaders to monitor, evaluate and improve provider and employee engagement, service excellence, clinical quality, environment of care and financial performance within their location. Responsible for supporting the local execution of practice-wide improvement strategies.

    Primary Responsibilities:  

    • Provide visible, supportive leadership for Providers, Staff and Patients
    • Improve Provider and Employee Engagement
    • Improve Clinical Quality 
    • Assure compliance with regulatory requirements 
    • Promote Service Excellence
    • Represent Optum in the local community

    Competency Requirements: 

    • Human Capital Management: Builds and manages workforce based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs. 
    • Work Management: Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost effective results. 
    • Financial Management: Develops and monitors annual operational and capital budgets for area of responsibility

    Required Qualifications:  

    • 3 years of experience, in a multi-specialty Practice setting, 2 years of which in a leadership role
    • Demonstrated successful track record in a leadership position
    • Demonstrated exceptional communication skills and ability to handle difficult situations with staff

    Preferred Qualifications:    

    • Proficient Computer Skills (EMR, Outlook, Word, Excel)


    New York Residents Only: The salary range for New York residents is $70,200 to $137,800 annually.
