Physician - Radiation Therapy uses radiation to treat patients with cancer. Develops an individual treatment plan based on the patient's medical history, physical examination, review of laboratory tests, X-ray studies, and biopsies. Being a Physician - Radiation Therapy works with medical radiation physicists and dosimetrists to calculate and deliver the exact dose of radiation to the cancer tissue. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Additionally, Physician - Radiation Therapy requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. This role provides technical services and support for patients undergoing radiation therapy, and their families. Under the supervision of the RTT the Radiation Therapy Assistant provides direct patient care and facilitates patient flow. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved and efficient patient care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Writes, reads, comprehends fluent English. Radiation Therapy students and Radiography students preferred.
Experience: Experience in a healthcare/direct patient care setting preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Current CPR certification or obtained within 30 days for new hires. CNA certification in the state of IA preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Direct Patient Care. Basic computer skills. Telephone skills. Machines: Various office equipment (including but not limited to fax, copier, scanner). Equipment: Wheelchairs, Gurneys, Walkers, Gait Belts, Ambulatory Aids.
Administrative:The Radiation Therapy Assistant will assist with office work, plus other duties when needed, and keep the department in a clean, orderly fashion. They must be able to concentrate on the task at hand and consistently follow procedures, must demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, cooperation and maintain an attitude of professionalism while strictly adhering to all hospital and department safety regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures.
