    Position Summary:

    Responsible for ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients through the effective coordination of department Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and clinical services. Ensures and facilitates open communication with all staff, to promote improved performance of the service line. Serves as a liaison among the surgeons, physicians, residents, managers, nurses, patients, and their families in the fostering of patient satisfaction. Contributes to the growth and development of the program, serving as administrator, clinical specialist, and direct patient care provider.

    Major Responsibilities:

    Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, coordinating the hiring and training of all new Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in collaboration with the Director of Interventional Radiology and the Division Chief. Develops and coordinates the schedule for all APPs in assigned service line. Manages APP time off requests. Ensures adequate coverage in certain areas such as clinic and the periprocedural areas at the University Campus is provided; serves as a liaison with the private physicians and UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) APPs. Acts as a primary resource for clinic staff by providing guidance and support to clinical staff in the performance of daily activities regarding patient care. Coordinates and tracks professional development for each APP. Responsible for facilitation and ensuring timely completion of employee performance reviews in close collaboration with the supervising physicians. In collaboration with the Compliance Office and Coding Department, establishes and maintains departmental procedures that ensure appropriate APP billing education. Responsible for ensuring optimization of APP billing. Attends departmental meetings. Serves as liaison between the Department Chair and APP staff. Organizes monthly meetings with APP staff. Maintains departmental Morbidity and Mortality records; presents at monthly meeting. Coordinates care of all patients. Develops standard written algorithms to guide patient care. Provides and coordinates clinical feedback and fosters communication amongst nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse managers and nurse educators. Ensures standards and requirements for Joint Commission Accreditation are met.

    Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:

    Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements. Respects diverse views and approaches demonstrates Standards of Respect and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

    Position Qualifications:

    License/Certification/Education:

    Required:

    Master's degree in Nursing and/or master's degree in a health care related field, including Physician Assistant. Current Massachusetts licensure. Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant with controlled substance authorization. BLS certification. ACLS certification.

    Experience/Skills:

    Required:

    Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience. Experience with and ability to provide direct patient management.

    Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

    Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies, and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
