    About Second Helpings 

    At Second Helpings, we address hunger today and build self-sufficiency to prvent hunger tomorrow. By accepting donated perishable and overstocked food, we prepare nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults every day and distribute them free of charge through social service organizations in Greater Indianapolis. 

     
    Founded in 1998 by three chefs, Second Helpings remains true to its core mission while the ability to serve our community has continued to grow. In the fiscal year 2022-2023 we have saved over 3.4 million pounds of food from the landfill. We distributed over 1.1 million meals and redirected another 2.2 million pounds of food products to 100 area partners. 

      

    The Second Helpings building is a vibrant and active one, fostering a collaborative work environment. The organization relies on a steady and dedicated volunteer corps that is in the building during most open hours, and it sees culinary job training students and graduates coming and going regularly. Food and food culture are ever-present, and lunch is available on most days.



    JOB SUMMARY  

    The Director of Partner Relations represents Second Helpings in the community and coordinates effective partnerships with current and prospective partners, primarily community-based organizations serving as Second Helpings meals sites and/or receiving redistributed food. This position collaborates very closely with the Directors of Hunger Relief and Food Rescue and is a critical part in accomplishing the mission of Second Helpings relationships with potential partners, and facilitates opportunities with and among partners to connect, obtain resources, and provide feedback. 


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

    Deliver impeccable customer service and prompt communication with current and potential partners. 

    Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 

    Train, supervise, and evaluate the Partner Relations coordinator.  

    Oversee and coordinate the work of volunteers engaged in the administrative work of the Partner Relations department.  

    Responsible for accurate recordkeeping, including community partner demographics, schedules, meals, and compliance with food safety policies.  

    Conducts site visits, kitchen and food pantry inspections and ensures partner satisfaction and compliance with Second Helpings policies. 

    Partner with the Directors of Hunger Relief and Food Rescue to achieve consensus in changes in partner agency status and needs.  

    Ensure partners are trained in and follow food safety procedures.  

    Maintain files and ensure their completeness with all required documentation.  

    Determine partner and end user satisfaction by administering annual surveys and routinely collecting anecdotal feedback. Works with colleagues to make data-driven decisions based on feedback.  

    Maintain an open channel of communication with partners and Second Helpings staff, volunteers, and students. Collect and maintain consistent data to aid in daily operations, month end, quarterly, and year-end reports, grant reporting, UWCI demographics, and board of directors of Second Helpings.  

    Plan and monitor department budget. 

    Provide assistance in other areas as requested and when time permits.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

    College degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.  

    Valid Indiana Operators driver’s license and a documented safe motor vehicle report required.  

    Must be able to successfully complete ServSafe Manager certified food handling program.  
    Experience in the food service industry a plus. 


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 

    Must possess good communication skills.  Must have the ability to take and give directions well. Must be able to work independently and under pressure. Must love to work with people of all backgrounds, identities, and economic levels and be friendly and outgoing. 

    Strong computer skills with experience in database management, word processing, and Microsoft Teams. Must have excellent oral and written communication as well as organizational skills. Salesforce experience a plus. Must be meticulous and have the ability to handle multiple tasks. 

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      

    Regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.   

    Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

    Vision (with correction if necessary) capabilities include close and distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

    Exposure to wet, humid and/or extreme heat conditions.
