GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Elevate Teacher Residency Director will be responsible for the oversight and execution of the Teacher Residency Program for Caliber Public Schools, Education for Change Public Schools, and Invictus Academy. The Residency Director role will include designing and facilitating coursework and professional development for teacher residents and resident mentors, collaborating on curriculum development with LMU faculty and the LMU Director of Teacher Residency Programs, as well as providing individual coaching to support to develop residents and mentors. This is a full-time position beginning May 2024.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Co-plan and facilitate summer Mentor-Resident Orientation.
• Design and facilitate the Resident Seminar for all Residents each week based on best practices in adult learning and teacher education, working closely with school partners and LMU to align trainings to meet LMU credential requirements and the needs of the Residents at each school.
• Work closely with Caliber, EfC and Invictus to deeply understand their school models, approach to teacher professional development, and teacher effectiveness frameworks. Serve as a liaison between school partners, LMU and Elevate Teaching.
• Supervise, manage and support Residents through the Residency year.
• Conduct formal and informal observations of teacher candidates (min 6 formal observations or support sessions per year) and mentor teachers.
• Design and facilitate monthly professional development sessions for all Mentors and provide ongoing coaching and support.
• Participate in relevant Elevate Teacher Residency Design Team meetings.
• Observe school-based professional development where relevant to build a deep understanding of each schools’ cultures and approaches to teacher development.
• Promote the growth of the Residency.
• Support and collaborate with principals who work with Residents and Mentors.
• Collaborate with the team to recruit, select, and match an excellent Resident/Mentor cohort each year.
• Participate in weekly Residency team meetings, Leadership Retreats, all Resident selection and assessment and other events as a primary leader in new teacher development at Caliber, EFC, & Invictus.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

• Experienced in supporting and developing veteran and mentor teachers and new (resident) teachers
• Deep knowledge in curriculum, instruction and adult learning
• Excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills
• High sense of urgency
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues with diplomacy and even-handedness and ability to work effectively with teammates of all levels
• High level of commitment to partner schools and the ETR mission and vision
• Proven leadership skills with exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships
• Ability to reflect on strengths and areas for growth
• Familiarity with the LMU , the , and for the teaching profession

2) Minimum educational level:

• Master’s degree or higher, preferably in education
• A California Teaching Credential
• Administrative Credential (preferred)

3) Experience required:

• Minimum 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
• 5 years working in K-12 public education, ideally including Special Education experience
• Experience observing and coaching teachers and managing and delivering professional development programs
• Teacher Residency experience preferred but not required

4) Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience.
