Sports Performance Specialist - Sports Medicine

    The Sports Medicine Sports Performance Specialist develops, implements, and monitors sports performance services on behalf of Nationwide Children?s Hospital Sports Medicine; assists in management of sports performance facilities; participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of department goals related to sports performance services; and ensures compliance with Joint Commission and external regulatory bodies. The specialist will also demonstrate competency defined in the ?Competencies Required for this Job? section by providing age-appropriate training to clients from the age of 5 through 21 years and select adult clients, with a primary focus on the middle and high school ages. The position may also participate in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives and hospital or departmental committees.

     

    Schedule: M-F PT 20 hours/week, most likely afternoon hours during the school year (2p-6p ish) and mornings in the summer (8a-12p ish).

    Responsibilities

    • Frequently develops and maintains relationships with community coaches, parents, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians to establish referral patterns to the program.
    • Continuously designs, implements, and monitors age-appropriate injury prevention and performance enhancement programs for sports medicine clientele, schools, interscholastic teams, and community youth organizations.
    • communicates with children on a level that they'll understand with instruction, cueing, and error correction.
    • Occasionally coordinates transition of student-athlete rehabilitation to performance training with sports medicine staff.
    • Occasionally assists with coordinating, maintaining, and staffing of weight room/performance facilities; assists in identifying and purchasing needed equipment; assists in scheduling training for various athletic programs.

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Bachelor's degree required, masters preferred
    • Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience preferred (working with athletic populations and children)
    • National Strength and Conditional Association and/or American College of Sports Medicine certification required
    • Other certifications preferred, such as Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, Functional Movement Systems, USA Weightlifting, USA Track & Field, Titleist Performance Institute
    • CPR Certification required
    • Knowledge of medical terminology
    • Knowledge of sports performance equipment
    • Interpersonal/human relations skills
    • Supervisory skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Knowledge of OHSAA and NCAA rules and regulations
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required to educate patients, families/caregivers, hospital staff and the public; and to write reports and correspondence and document patient care activities Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and families/caregivers, NCH medical, nursing and allied medical staff, other clinical registered & licensed dietitians, occupational therapists and speech therapists, other hospital personnel, other agencies and institutions, and the public
