Physicist jobs in Altoona, PA
Physicist researches subjects such as mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity, pneumatics, magnetism, and radiation. Develops laws and theories of physics for their application to specific industries and fields. Being a Physicist describes and illustrates observations and conclusions in mathematical terms. Devises procedures for physical testing of materials. Additionally, Physicist conducts instrumental analyses to determine physical properties of materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Physicist works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. Overview
To perform a wide variety of duties including but not limited to clinical physics support, computer treatment planning, QA-chart and calculation checks, machine calibrations, brachytherapy treatment planning and source management, and dosimetry.
Qualifications
Education:
1) Master’s Degree in a Physical Science or Engineering
Experience:
1) Three to five years’ experience in a hospital based or free standing Radiation Oncology Center.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1) Must have ability to work cooperatively with other personnel in the department and the Medical Center.
License/Certification/Registration:
1) Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics through either the American Board of Medical Physics or the American Board of Radiology.
