The position is the technical leader for the Radiation Producing Machine Program and is responsible for the X-ray Systems Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program. The incumbent leads the program by establishing procedures and protocols for the QA program to ensure regulatory and Joint Commission compliance items are met, and to assure exposures to radiation are as low as possible (ALARA). This person must possess a high level of knowledge and technical expertise in the area of imaging systems quality assurance for the numerous complex pieces of equipment located throughout the Health System. The incumbent will carryout reviews and audits of QA functions, provide analyses of findings and work with other professionals throughout the Health System including diagnostic medical physicist and physicians to improve processes.
This individual will be expected to review the actions of various departments throughout the Health System with respect to X-ray radiation safety and act accordingly to resolve issues that arise. This individual will provide recommendations and information concerning compliance with Health System radiation safety policies and procedures, as well as State and Federal regulations based on established best practices. The incumbent oversees equipment testing procedures and advises technologists and x-ray supervisors and operators on techniques. This individual will be expected to review the data collected from various radiologic exams and look for trends and outliers and assure appropriate actions are taken to address identified cases. This position assists in special projects for the department. This position supports the Health Physics goal of fostering communication/coordination within the Health System community.
