    Job Summary: The Pipe Fitter will have responsibility to repair and create piping systems with different types of pipes. A successful Pipe Fitter requires one to be comfortable using a wide variety of tools, techniques, and materials. You will need to be able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to do this job efficiently.

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Education & Experience:Must be 25 years of age to perform this job. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and production and processing systems.
    • Read blueprints and drawings to plan layout and install piping systems.
    • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications.
    • Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions.
    • Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers.
    • Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
    • Threads pipe using threading machine.
    • Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machine.
    • Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe.
    • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
    • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
    • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws.
    • Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools.
    • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
    • Welds pipe supports to structural steel members.
    • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
    • May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
    • Performs minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
    • Respiratory protection is common and may be required.
    • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
    • Perform other duties as required.
    • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
    • Plan work and select proper tools.
    • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
    • Willing to travel 50% of the time.

    Education:

    • The National Center for Construction Education and Research Certification (NCCER); or equivalent combination of education and pipe welding experience.

    Experience:

    • 5 years of pipe fitting experience
    • Computer skills, must be able to read a tape measure

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to climb 40-foot extension ladders and work on all types of ladders.
    • Ability to visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
    • Ability to operate scissor lifts, fork trucks, boom lifts, lulls and other industrial equipment safely.
    • Ability to see and hear industrial equipment moving around the job site.
    • Capable of working alone up to 12 hours carrying out assigned tasks with little to no supervision.
    • Should be familiar with rigging, torch cutting, grinder & wire wheel operation, leveling, and use of measurement tools.
    • Need to be familiar with the use of a pipe threading machine.
    • Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time.
    • Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; maintains a clean and organized work environment.
    • Quantity - Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity.
    • Safety - Observes all safety procedures and policies; Reports potentially unsafe conditions to supervisor; Uses equipment and materials properly.
    • Good attention to detail.
    • Able to work accurately from verbal and written instructions.
