    Position Summary

                           

    Responsible for the maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company. Other duties may be assigned.  

     

    Principal Duties/Responsibilities

     

    I.          Manages the plant maintenance program.

     

    a.     Initiates and implements the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the ethanol industry, with an emphasis on preventive and predictive maintenance.

     

    b.     Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.

     

    c.     Maintains and repairs maintenance shop equipment

     

    d.     Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.

     

    e.     Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations or solving maintenance related problems.

     

    f.      Develops and maintains departmental budget. Strives to consistently meet budgetary goals.

     

    II.             Supervises plant maintenance personnel.

     

    a.     Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner.

     

    b.     Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.

     

    c.     Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel.

     

    d.     Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians.

     

    e.     Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.

     

     

    III.            Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems.

     

    a.     Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.

     

    b.     Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.

     

    c.     Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.

     

    d.     Ensures city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance department are met at all times.

     

    e.     Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.

     

    f.      Maintains and manages all plant and process equipment data, specifications, operational/maintenance manuals, and keeps historical records on maintenance activities.  

     

    IV.           Coordinate activities with other departments.

     

    a.     Communicates directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.

     

    b.     Communicates directly with QA laboratory to ensure effective participation by maintenance technicians in the implementation of QA policies and procedures.

    V.            Other.

    a.     Implements programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.

     

    b.     Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.

     

    c.     Assist and help develop and manage capital projects.

     

    VI.           Supervisory Responsibilities:

     

    a.     Directly supervises maintenance staff.

     

    b.     Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

     

    c.     Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training maintenance employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    VII.       Minimum Job Requirements

    a.     Computer skills: Microsoft office products, word, excel. Use of Computerize Maintenance Management Software (CMMS). Have the ability to use DCS/PLC operations control systems for plant equipment.

     

    b.     Mathematical skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Have the ability to calculate rate, ratio, percent, draw and interpret bar graphs. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

     

    c.     Must have the ability to work effectively with computerized maintenance management system and instruct others on its operation.

     

    d.     Effective oral and written communication skills.

     

    e.     Ability to train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinates.

     

    f.      Time management skills.

     

    g.     Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    h.     Preferred minimum degree from a two year college or a Technical/vocational school; technical military background or 3 years work experience.
