    This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Graphic Design Adjunct Faculty instructor who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in assigned discipline. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in classroom, laboratory, online courses, tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; and preparing teaching materials.

    EDUCATION

    Required: Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field.

    Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field.

    EXPERIENCE

    Required: Three (3) years of experience in graphic or commercial art using Mac computers with working knowledge of In-Design, Photoshop and illustrator.

    Preferred:

    • Four (4) years of applicable experience, including computer graphics work.
    • One (1) or more years of teaching experience at the college level.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instructions, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
    • Plan, develop, and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
    • Demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of students’ growth and progress to prepare students for careers in graphic design including giving feedback on students’ portfolios.
    • Teach technical, creative, artistic, and/or graphic design skills for institutional support activities, both manually and by computer graphics.
    • Educate students on appropriate typographical and illustrative styles to fit the content of manuscripts and how to design and develop charts, graphics, posters, laminates, flat-art mounting, and lettering.
    • Instruct students how to prepare color illustrations for publications, posters, programs, slides, and photographs using a variety of techniques.
    • Provide instruction on application of visual communication, publishing, Web development, Web design, concept development, layouts, product design, camera-ready art, Web-compatible art/graphics and coordinating print and Web promotional activities.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Ability to maintain a high level or professionalism at all times, especially when dealing with resistance or hostility, and to provide an exemplary level of customer service to all internal, external customers, vendors, community leaders, etc;
    • Ability to understand and apply excellent learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
    • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills.
    • Proficient skills with Mac computers, HTLM, CSS for Web Design, In-Design, PhotoShop, Illustrator and FontLab or a similar software.
    • Skills in computer operation, multimedia classroom instructions software, and be willing to learn new computer software.

    Salary Adjunct: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

    Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

    Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
