    Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Planning Forester to support our Southern Timberlands business in Broken Bow, OK. The Planning Forester is a full time, exempt position within the Arkansas/Oklahoma Region and will report to the Planning Manager.

    Key Functions

    As the Planning Forester, you will be responsible for harvest planning, including preparation of annual and 3 to 5 year fee harvest plans consistent with area silvicultural and harvest strategies. You will also be included in the Fire Rotation schedule, which requires availability several weekends throughout the year, and you will be an active participant in fire suppression and control as needed. Additional responsibilities include:

    • Safety/risk awareness, the courage to intervene when unsafe activities are observed, and a willingness to role model safety
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of timber management techniques and practices, tract preparation activities (harvest prescriptions, checking for environmental concerns, understand SFI-related management constraints {opening size and adjacency}, boundary line maintenance, and an understanding of how a wood basket relates to local markets
    • Calculate and meet a yearly contract budget and facilitate communication between marketing, harvesting and silviculture foresters in the area
    • Responsible for new road construction and maintaining forest roads in a manner that ensures safety and environmental expectations are met and allows timber harvesting and other forestland management during varied weather conditions.
    • Work is accomplished through contractors and their management is a major component of this role
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field OR equivalent combination of work experience and education
      • Preference is at least 2 years of experience
    • Basic negotiating and contract administration skills
    • Cruise design and sampling principals
    • Knowledge of practical application of forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs)
    • Experience with Forest Inventory/GIS systems and willingness to learn and use Weyerhaeuser’s inventory system
    • Proficient in use of computer software (i.e., Excel)
    • Understanding of harvest supervision, silvicultural goals and basic forest economics
    • Knowledge of mobile applications
    • Willingness to abide by established safety standards
    • Demonstrated leadership and people skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Problem solving skills
    • Good teaming skills including the ability and willingness to work in a diverse team environment
    • Willing to cover additional projects and assignments as needed
