    JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Budget and Planning is responsible for overseeing budgeting, financial planning, and other designated business management functions in support of the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Business Affairs. This role involves advising on budgeting and financial planning issues, coordinating the development of major operating budgets, preparing revenue and expenditure projections, and monitoring financial performance to aid in institutional planning.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Advise the Vice President for Administration and Business Affairs on budgeting and financial planning issues.
    • Coordinate the development of the University’s major operating budgets, including the general fund, auxiliary operations, and capital projects.
    • Prepare revenue and expenditure projections, including tuition rate formulation and forecasting.
    • Track and analyze actual financial performance measures to monitor overall institutional financial performance and aid in planning.
    • Monitor and analyze budgeted revenue and expenditure variances, recommending corrective actions as appropriate.
    • Monitor divisional initiatives related to the identification and use of best practices, benchmarking, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Consult with University departments on financial planning matters.
    • Facilitate by-position budgeting.
    • Create budget measures and metrics to determine adequacy and necessary adjustments.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
    • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, financial planning, or related field.
    • Strong financial, statistical and analytical skills.
    • Knowledge of university and/or non-profit budgeting procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Strong commitment to the needs of divisional stakeholders combined with well-developed problem-solving skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities.
    • Strong technology skills with proficiencies in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized software programs.
    • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
    • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

    PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree in business or public administration, finance, or related field and/or professional certification.
    • Prior experience in a higher education setting.
    • Implementation of or experience with Workday or other university ERP system/budget software.
