Plant Manager directs a plant or production facility's overall operations. Sets and implements policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Develops and deploys manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant Manager develops and implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Collaborates with multi-functional plant teams, including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Leads or participates in labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Plant Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Erie Forge and Steel, Inc. an industry leading manufacturer of large steel components for military applications (US Navy, Coast Guard) has an immediate opening for a Plant Manager.
Our ideal candidate should have a college degree and 10 plus years of experience in a technical position (manufacturing/process engineer) in a metal cutting manufacturing environment. The primary focus of this position will be leading and coordinating manufacturing and documentation improvements to reduce process variation and increase productivity. This position requires the ability to effectively manage multiple projects in collaboration with department supervisors and ensure that all work being done is within the guidelines of the union contract. The ability to work within a team is critical but must be able to make decisions and take responsibility as required.
