Plant Manager directs a plant or production facility's overall operations. Sets and implements policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Develops and deploys manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant Manager develops and implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Collaborates with multi-functional plant teams, including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Leads or participates in labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Plant Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Position Description

    Job Summary:

    The Plant Manager is responsible for leading the operations and management of our Palmer Hot mix Asphalt Plant and Gravel operation. This individual will plan, direct, and coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for safely producing the highest quality products in a timely manner. This position reports to the Regional Manager.

    Essential Functions:

The role is obligated to be proactive and take necessary corrective actions to resolve safety related issues and to ensure a safe workplace.

Provide leadership, resources and processes to ensure reliable, quality driven plant operations. This includes coordinating production scheduling, ordering raw materials, parts and supplies. As well as dedication to a preventatitive maintenance and continuous tinkering mindset.
    • Take ownership in leading the safe operations of the asphalt plant and equipment to produce quality products that meet applicable specifications which meet customer expectations.
    • Communicate with customers to provide added value with quality, service, production, and scheduling.
    • Results matter. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production and performance goals. Understand the financial goals and actions to achieve them. Develop the annual budget, winter maintenance and capital expenditure plans.
    • Honesty and truth. Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, either directly or indirectly by partnering with cross functional teams, in a timely and effective manner.
    • Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are implemented while reducing downtime.
    • Working with our Technical Services department to ensure compliance with all operating permit conditions and applicable environmental laws and regulations while developing the mine site in accordance with the operating plan.

    Position Requirements

    Requirements, Education and Experience:
    1. Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred.
    2. Asphalt plant production, crushing and screening experience. Preferably with at least 3 years of experience. Quality control experience would be advantageous.
    3. Demonstrate high ethical standards and a dedicated commitment to safety.
    4. Strong mechanical and plant operations knowledge.
    5. Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    6. Excellent spoken and written communication skills across all levels of employees.
    7. Valid driver’s license.
    8. Proven dependability, organization, problem solving and adaptability skills.
    9. High degree of accuracy, thoroughness and attention to details.
    10. Legal right to work in USA.

    Travel:

    Position may require up to 25% travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout the state of New York, and New England based on the needs of the business. The company does offer a vehicle reimbursement program.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands:

    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force frequently, and or a negligible amount of force constant to move objects. Job involves sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and bending for brief periods of time in all types of weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/visitors.
